Iowa Forestry
Field Days
A variety of forestry topics are presented that relate to the improvement of woodland resources or the expansion of tree resources in the state and are tailored to local needs in your area.
The Iowa Foresty Field Days program is sponsored in cooperation with your local Department of Natural Resources' District Forester, your County Extension Office, and frequently with your County Conservation Board.
What is it?
It is 3 to 6 hours of outdoor classroom instruction on a variety of forestry topics related to the improvement of woodland resources or the expansion of tree resources in the state. Between 10 and 15 such programs will be available to you across the state. Specific topics considered vary and are tailored to local needs in your area. The program is sponsored in cooperation with your local Dept. of Natural Resources' District Forester, your County Extension Office, and frequently with your County Conservation Board. Forestry Field Days have been available in Iowa for 20 years.
Who is it for?
The program is intended to serve private woodland owners, public land managers, forestry consultants and service providers, and interested citizens of Iowa.
What does it cost?
This program's fee ranges from zero to modest. Some programs provide meals, the cost of which is charged to you as a participant; others may require fees to cover the costs of educational materials, mailings, or refreshments.
Why should you become involved?
The benefits are many. First, you will become more knowledgeable about how to manage tree resources for their many benefits and, more specifically, how to better manage your own forested property, if you are a landowner. Second, you will make contact with resource professionals such as your District Forester. Third, you will meet other people who are also woodland owners; you will have the opportunity to exchange information and discuss experiences with these individuals. Finally, you will usually receive a packet of useful reference materials (extension pamphlets and notes) related to the topics being considered.
