IOWA SOCIETY OF AMERICAN FORESTERS
POSITION STATEMENT
TO SUPPORT THE STATE FOREST NURSERY

Background –

The Iowa Society of American Foresters strives to further the education and professional development of its members, and promote conservation and the wise use of the natural resources of Iowa.

The State Forest Nursery provides affordable, native plant material for private landowners to improve water quality, air quality, wildlife habitat and reforestation in Iowa.  The availability of native plants that are affordable to private landowners is crucial for continued conservation efforts in Iowa.

The State Forest Nursery also funds the Forest Enhancement Fund which supports five forestry positions to provide technical advice to private landowners and promote tree planting and wise forest management.

Position Statement -

The Iowa Society of American Foresters, an organization of 78 professional foresters, supports the State Forest Nursery continuing to provide affordable, native tree and shrub seedlings to private landowners for conservation purposes, and to cover the costs of production and funding of the Forest Enhancement Fund.
